Hope found after typhoon

typhoon02Last December 4, 2012, the Compostela Valley Province was hit by typhoon Bohpa. It was the first and deadliest typhoon to ever hit in Comval Province.  Thousands of lives and properties were lost. But most tragic was the loss of faith and hope. Within two months  of the typhoon we were able to encourage and share the hope of life that can only be found in our Lord Jesus Christ in very real ways.

In February I taught a Children’s Ministry training for 7 students in that province so that they could continue to share the hope of Jesus with children that lost everything.

I have been blessed to be able to preach in one of the churches that has grown as a result of typhoon Bohpa. Following this tragedy people have opened their hearts to Jesus, realizing that only He can give them hope and a future. I was able to share God’s words as a testimony of his love. Following service we were able to distribute more than 100 Bibles to people that had lost everything. I’d like to thank Pastor Terry Williams and funds received from Light for the Lost for putting hope in the hands of so many.

BiblesDistributedThey were so glad to have received God’s life giving words. One child said, “My Bible was damaged by the typhoon and I am thankful that I now own a Bible.” The Bibles brought smiles as you saw the hunger in their hearts for the Word of God. Its not enough for the whole community but we are praying more bibles will come.

Continue to pray for this community as they recover from this disaster. If you would like to be a blessing to these families and help bring hope contact Missionary Terry Williams.

We are in need of the following items:

  1. Bibles
  2. School Supplies
  3. Shoes
  4. Clothing
  5. Seeds
  6. Livestock
  7. For $47.00 you can sponsor a child  and cover all their expenses so that they can attend school for an entire year.

May we show how God cares and provides for His children through the generosity of others.

Wow, fish!

One day my friend Nilson approached me and asked for prayer for his situation. His wife left him with three children, all boys. The youngest is two years old and the oldest is 6 years old. He can’tmove properly because of arthritis and gout. His right eye is already blind and his left is starting to blurry. He owns a very small store but few items to sell.
In James 2:16 it says, and one of you says to them, “Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,” but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit?” (NKJV) This great question struck my heart. Honestly, when Nilson asks me for prayer I never pray for him instead I pray to God and ask how I can help this person inspite of the situation I myself am in. It is very hard to pray when you know what the bible says but if you are open to the guidance of the small voice, The Holy Spirit, He will guide you in what to do as long as your heart is willing to follow and obey Jesus.

This is how I responded to Nilson’s situation. I bought an empty barrel to make charcoal and attached it to my motorcycle for the trip to where we would start the process. When I arrived we started to make the charcoal by burning coconut shell. The process must be right. If not, the product will be damaged.
After one day of preparing it, it was time to deliver the product to Nison’s place and pack the charcoal into small pieces.
While doing this packing of charcoal, my wife Nene prepared a meal, she cooked nutritious rice and fish soup. While my wife prepared the delicious food, the two children very excited and said ‚ “Wow fish‚” You can tell that they miss this kind of food, I don’t know when they last ate this kind of food but maybe you can guess through the kids reaction.
This is the fish soup that my wife prepared. We prayed together before we ate and had a wonderful time. We talked about life and how Jesus provides our needs beyond our imagination. After that we left. They were very happy and thankful to Our Lord Jesus Christ, not for the food but the love and care that we shared with them, showing that there are people who are sent by God to help them and encourage them to continue to live in Christ. We shared

business, we shared food but best of all we shared the gospel of Our Lord Jesus Christ. It doesn’t require a lot of money to help the needy but it requires a lot compassion and love and God will give you wisdom to know how you can help the needy.

Please continue to pray for Nilson and his family:

1. Surgery might be able to stop the blindness in Nilson’s left eye
2. Nilson’s whole body is tormented by Satan and arthritis and yet he is still raising three children, pray for strength and patience.
3. When it rains the water floods their sleeping area, pray for the building materials needed to repair their home.
4. Raising three boys is not easy; please pray for wisdom and strength for him and good health to the whole family.
